Gracia: We have to improve

Published on: 11 August 2019

Javi Gracia accepted that there were no excuses for the 3-0 home defeat by Brighton that Watford suffered in their first Premier League game of the season.

The Hornets ended last season with just one win in their final six league games and that poor run of from continued at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

We need to improve and maybe this is a good wake-up call for the rest of the season.

Head coach Gracia offered no excuses for such a poor performance, with the only positive that there is plenty of time to put things right in the coming weeks.

The Spaniard told his club's official website: "We need to improve and maybe this is a good wake-up call for the rest of the season. The best news is that it's the first game and we have a lot of time to improve.

"There were no excuses. They played better than us, they deserved the three points and they got the result they deserved.

"All of us are disappointed, but I prefer to wait, to trust we'll be able to do it better in the second game. I prefer to focus on that."

Next up for Watford is a trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton next Saturday, with the Hornets unbeaten in their last three meetings with the Merseysiders.

Gracia's side are 3/1 to secure a draw against Everton, with a 1-1 final scoreline priced at 7/1, while Watford are 11/4 to finish in the top half of the table come the end of the season.
