Medeama made a flying start to their campaign by clinically dispatching Liberty Professionals 3-1 at the Essipong Stadium in the GHALCA Glo G8 Cup on Sunday.

The result was much expected after Liberty were heavily touched by the death of the club's owner and president Alhaji Sly Tetteh.

But the Dansoman-based side began rather frantic from the onset and were quick to go on the score sheet through striker Ibrima Camara on three minutes.

The Guinean import lashed onto a Michael Appiah flick-on off a goal kick taken by Patrick Antwi in the Liberty post to beautifully slot home for the game's opener.

Camara could have doubled the lead a few seconds later as again he lashed onto a lose pass immediately after the resumption of play and went on a solo run.

The end product however left much to be desired as his final shot went wide off target to give the boiling Medeama defence area a much needed breather.

It was all Liberty at this point with newly installed captain, Michael Helegbe pulling all the strings in midfield.

The visitors were however punished for their early profligacy at goal as Medeama pulled level in the 10th minute through Hans Coffie.

The speedster ghosted his markers from behind to connect to driven cross from Louis Agyemang to delight of the crowd.

The game begun to even up at this point but had its frantic start was maintained through the half.

Only poor finishing prevented the growth of the scoreline as a plethora of goal scoring chances kept being agonizingly missed.

One of such golden opportunities came the way of Hans Coffie who blasted wide just outside the six-yard box when he could have squared for a teammate for a simple tap-in to the utter dismay of coach Bashir Hayford.

The start of the second half was delayed due to power outage at the Essinpong Stadium and this impacted on the game as the frantic tempo was significantly reduced was play resumed.

Substitute Mohammed Tanko announced his presence in grand style by puttin the Mauves and Yellows infront in the 55th minute.

The striker finished off a great run by Louis Agyemang who had been a thorn in the flesh all night long for the Liberty defence.

Hans Coffe grabbed his second of the night five minutes later after beating Liberty's offside trap to make it 3-1.

Liberty complained bitterly but that was waive by the referee.

The game went through a stale period for the majority of the second half with chances coming few and wide.

In the end, the endurance and durability of the Medeama lads proved far superior to that of the visitors who perhaps are still seething from the loss of their inspirational president Alhaji Sly Tetteh.

Medeama jump to the top of the table with three points and two goals and the chasing pack AshantiGold and Dwarfs have one point each.

The next round of matches in this group will be played on September 15 with Liberty facing  AshGold while Medeama battle Dwarfs all at the same venue.
