Gyan hits back at comments made by Odartey Lamptey

Asamoah Gyan is disappointed in comments made by Odartey Lamptey which suggests excluding him from Black Stars for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The ex Ghana international insists the Al Ain striker should be dropped for the tournament if he is not 100% fit.

Gyan is expected to be out for three-weeks with a hamstring injury, meaning he will be available just before the start of the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

However Odartey maintains the 26-year-old who a lot will be expected of in Ghana’s quest to end a 30-year wait for an African title be dropped since his fitness cannot be guaranteed with the tournament just around the corner but Gyan says the comments are totally out of place.

"I am bitterly disappointed in the comments made by Odartey Lamptey," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"As a player I didn't expect such comments from someone who had played the game before and is supposed to know better.

"He (Lamptey) is not a medical expert, does not know my physical condition so for me his comments are totally misplaced."

The on loan Sunderland striker also reiterated his desire to be at the Nations Cup but stressed it won't be at the cost of Ghana's chances of winning the trophy.

"I have not hidden my desire to help the Black Stars at the Nations Cup but like I said before I first have to be fit to play.

"I believe I will make a full recovery in time but I won't force myself if things don't go as planned," he added.
