Gyan returns to England for Sunderland farewell

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan returned to England on Monday night to officially bid farewell to his former side Sunderland.

The 25-year-old has been criticized for being dishonest in accepting a big-money move to United Arab Emirates side Al Ain.

This will be seen as the olive branch for Asamoah to convince Steve, the board and every Sunderland fan of his commitment to this club if he is to return.

Sunderland chairman Naill Quinn revealed: "Steve's frustrations towards the player, expressed minutes after the Chelsea game, were understandable at such a time but I can reveal that since then Asamoah and Steve have made contact and they are on good terms."

Gyan is expected back in the UAE on Thursday to begin his new life in the Gulf.
