Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed appreciation to Tamale fans for the unflinching support given the Black Stars in their 2015 AFCON qualifying win over Guinea on Wednesday.

Fans in the Northern turned out in their teeming numbers as they filled the Tamale Sports Stadium to it brimming levels.

"We knew we had something better for the Tamale fans. Not only the Tamale fans, but the whole of Ghana. The support here has been so incredible. Shout out to all the fans and the Tamale people," he said in the post-match interview.

Ghana had to resist a strong performance from the Syli Nationale after Moussa Yattara equalised Asamoah Gyan's 14th minute opener for the Black Stars.

Fans refused to silence and chanted the team on until Andre Ayew converted a second-half penalty and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu came off the bench to sever the game off for Ghana.

Gyan acknowledged the fans for their unconditional support during and after the game.

"We didn't believe the reception we had at the airport today. I would like to thank them very much for this victory."

Ghana have eight points from four games in Group E in the the Africa Cup of Nations qualifications. The Black Stars will play Uganda in Kampala before hosting Togo in the last group game in Tamale next month.
