Haaland and Dortmund stars return to training in pairs amid coronavirus crisis

Erling Haaland couldn't hide his smile and he and his Borussia Dortmund team-mates returned to the training ground on Monday afternoon.

The players have spent the past few weeks in isolation due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Bundesliga currently suspended until April 30 at the earliest.

It is unclear when and if the German top flight and other major football leagues will be completed with international competitions such as EURO 2020 and Copa America already having to be pushed back by one year.

Whilst the re-scheduling has been on everyone's lips, Dortmund have been carefully planning their return to the training in order to keep their squad match fit.

This involved the club's players only being allowed to train in twos as they got back to work as the Dortmund base in Brackel.

Despite there being risk involved, midfielder Emre Can said on Sunday that he was looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.

'It's important that we go back to the field, it doesn't get boring,' he told Sport1.

Dortmund were enjoying a successful season until the Bundesliga was suspended due to the coronavirus.

They were four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich but Can admitted it will not be easy if and when the season does resume.

'It will be very, very difficult. We still have direct duels with Bayern and Leipzig,' he added.

Dortmund have been one of the German clubs to make a sizeable donation to help fight the virus that is causing deaths all over the world.

Can believes that footballers have a responsibility to the public as they 'earn a lot of money' that can help fight the virus.

'It was very quick for us in the team,' he said. 'We footballers have a responsibility, we earn a lot of money and want to give something back.'

'We have a good squad, it won't be easy. But I think yes, that it is still possible.'
