Hamsik: We play for the Napoli fans

Published on: 07 January 2016

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik has praised his teammates for securing all three points during their narrow 2-1 victory over Torino in Serie A.

Having began the New Year in winning fashion, the Partenopei goalscorer has admitted it is sometimes difficult to regain previous form after a break, thus is glad to have successfully obtained the win at the Stadio San Paolo.

“It is sometimes difficult to get straight back to winning ways after a break,” said Hamsik to Sky Sport Italia. “So for this reason we are satisfied with the victory.

“I am happy with my goal but I am more so for the three points.”

He also warned the Azzurri not to become complacent in the second half of the season, and that they must maintain their winning ways if they are to stay near the top of the Serie A standings.

“We are happy to be high in the league but there are still a lot of matches that remain,” the 28-year-old added. “We want to stay close to those places at the top of the table.”

Lastly, Hamsik also commended the team’s decision to celebrate with the Napoli fans following their positive result, insisting that they are integral to the team’s success.

“To celebrate our happiness with the fans is natural,” the Slovakian concluded. “We play for them.”
