Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti cast his eye over the current Serie A race, including Christian Eriksen comparisons with Andrea Pirlo, Juventus, Lazio, Inter, Napoli and Milan.
Ancelotti took the Everton job just days after he was sacked by Napoli in December, but is still keeping tabs on what’s happening in Italy.
“It’s certainly a more exciting Scudetto race compared to past years. It’s an open and uncertain battle, so it’s not easy to pick a favourite,” he told Radio Deejay.
“Juventus have experience, Inter have enthusiasm and Lazio don’t have Cup competitions to worry about.”
The Nerazzurri brought in Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur in January, although Antonio Conte hasn’t decided yet how to use the Dane with Marcelo Brozovic.
“Eriksen is the complete midfielder, as he can play both wide and in a deeper role. I see him very similar to Pirlo, so he could also play in front of the defence. He can see the passing lines, can shoot from distance too.”
Juventus are finding their tactical reshuffle tricky too, as Maurizio Sarri warned his Napoli system can never be truly replicated.
“I heard what Maurizio said. There are players you need to use in the right way, because they are decisive. Football is everything, it’s defence, attack and counter-attack. There is no winning system. It all needs to be built around the characteristics of your players.
“I still follow Napoli and always will. They are doing very well and I am glad that Fabian Ruiz rediscovered his best condition. Now they have Barcelona in the Champions League and that is a lot less predictable than some might think.”
Ancelotti hasn’t forgotten his old club Milan either, who he represented as both player and coach.
“They went through a difficult period, but I saw some signs of a reawakening. The tradition of the club should be respected and you can only rebuild a team through planning and respecting the rules.”
