Hearts of Oak have defended the decision to name Serbian coach Nebojsa Vucicevic as head coach.

Frank Nelson's management team has come under pressure after member of the club's council of patrons Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe described the appointment of the 44-year-old as "unwise"

But the club say Vucicevic's selection is strategic and based on merit.

"We are also convinced Vucicevic has the pedigree and technical know-how to help us from our present situation on the league table. A new coach always brings new philosophy and that will also serve as a motivation for players who will be eager to impress the new coach and play out their heart for the club," Hearts spokesperson Albert Commey said.

The former manager of FK Radnicki Novi Beograd (former Yugoslavia) is expected to arrive in the country on Thursday to sign a two-year deal.

He will assisted by Tanko Shaibu on the bench.
