Hearts dismiss Medeama to move joint top

Hearts of Oak ended their three-match winless streak with a comeback 2-1 win over Medeama to tie with leaders Kotoko, who have a game in hand.

The Phobians went down on 24 minutes from the spot after goalkeeper Sammy Adjei obstructed Louis Agyemang inside the box.

Midfielder Francis Coffie made no mistake by expertly converting it with Adjei left with no chance to save his side.

Medeama's celebrations lasted for only three minutes when striker Mahatma Otoo drew Hearts level against the run of play.

Otoo shot from the edge of the box with Medeama goalkeeper Tijani Musah completely in wonderland.

Referee O.B Amankwa denied Hearts an opportunity to score a second by turning down a penalty call in the 62nd minutes after a ball hit defender Godfred Rockson's hand inside the box.

However, Hearts kept faith and shot ahead from a controversial referee call when they quickly effected a free-kick on 71 minutes.

Prince Attakora-Gyimah profited from a scuffed clearance and tucked home for the second goal.

Medeama players and officials protested vehemently but calm was restored and play continued.

Hearts are now on 21 points but with inferior goal difference and in second place.
