Hearts of Oak chief Togbe Afede XIV defends regular change of coaches

Hearts of Oak majority shareholder Togbe Afede XIV has defended the club's rapid turnovers of coaches, saying  "its a reflection of the ambition of the Ghanaian giants".

The business magnate and traditional ruler insists the Premier League club’s hire-and-fire approach to coaches reflects the demand of the former African champions.

Hearts of Oak have sacked many coaches over the years with former Ghana international Kim Grant being the latest casualty.

There have been criticism against the rapid turnovers amid claims it has affected the consistency of the team - leaving the club without a trophy in a decade.

But the highly-respected President of the National House of Chiefs insists the hiring and firing of coaches reflects the ambition of the club.

“People say we change coaches, well sometimes that is a reflection of the ambitions of the club," he told TV Sports+

“Go to the history and see how many coaches Real Madrid has had in the last 15 years,” he remarked.

“So we are doing the best we can and they should also believe that in the board there is a lot of talent. We have the likes of Nyaho Tamakloe who has been in football administration at all the levels, from Accra Hearts of Oak to the FA. So we would make it.

“Many people cannot imagine where we want to take Hearts to. Maybe they are thinking about here, we are thinking about there. We only need their support, genuine support, the need to have faith in the leadership and they will see that the smiles will be back.”

The future of stop-gap coach Edward Odoom is still up in smoke with constant calls for his removal.
