Hearts of Oak defender Michael Awuah Mensah has shared his mixed emotions following his debut in the Democracy Cup against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.

The centre-back, who recently signed a three-year deal with the Phobians, described the experience as "sweet" but acknowledged the pressure of the occasion.

"The feeling wasn't bad, it was sweet, but there was pressure," Mensah told Hearts of Oak media. "As a new player, having your first match as a cup game against Asante Kotoko comes with pressure."

Despite the 1-0 defeat to Kotoko, Mensah believes his performance was solid. "Thank God, although we lost, the performance wasn't bad. The feeling was a good feeling for me," he added.

Mensah, who impressed last season with debutants Nations FC, is set to play a significant role for Hearts in the upcoming 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season. The Phobians will have a chance to avenge their Democracy Cup loss when they face Asante Kotoko again in the league.
