Tensions flared at the Accra Sports Stadium as Hearts of Oak fans expressed their frustration following the club’s 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Basake Holy Stars in their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League opener on Sunday.
The Phobians conceded an early goal just two minutes into the game, courtesy of Prince Tweneboah, and failed to recover throughout the match, leading to a shocking home loss. This disappointing result provoked an uproar among the Hearts of Oak supporters at full-time.
The situation escalated during the post-match conference, as angry fans disrupted proceedings, forcing the police to intervene and cut the event short for safety reasons.
Head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, who did not attend the post-match interview, had his assistant Yaw Amankwah address the media. However, Amankwah had to quickly leave as furious supporters surrounded the team’s car, demanding accountability.
Fans, visibly upset by the team's performance, hooted at the players and called for the immediate sacking of Coach Ouattara after just one game into the new season.
The pressure on Hearts of Oak’s technical staff has intensified, with fans voicing their concerns about the club’s direction following their struggles last season.
The Phobians will now have to regroup quickly before their next fixture against Heart of Lions, as the club’s leadership assesses the growing unrest among supporters.
