Legendary Mohammed Polo has criticized coach Aboubakar Ouattara, claiming the club lacks effective leadership amid a rough start to the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians began their campaign with a surprising 1-0 loss to newcomers Basake Holy Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 2-0 defeat to Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium.
These results have left Hearts of Oak at the bottom of the league table, without a single point after two matches.
In response to the club's struggles, Polo expressed doubts about Ouattara’s coaching abilities, arguing that he is unable to improve the team’s performance.
"Ouattara nearly led the team to relegation last season. Why stick with such a coach?" the former Ghana international told Bryt FM in Koforidua.
"He simply cannot turn things around. It took Jones Attuquayefio five years to build a competitive team, but Ouattara's situation is different. If debutants like Basake Holy Stars can defeat you at home, when will you elevate your game?"
Polo lamented the current state of Hearts of Oak, stating, "This isn't the Hearts of Oak we once knew. The team is suffering from poor management and a lack of a competent coach who can enhance player performance."
Hearts of Oak will aim to bounce back when they host Bechem United in their upcoming Matchday three fixture at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
