Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo implores Kotoko, AshantiGold to regain Ghana CAF inter-club two slots

Former Ghana and Hearts of Oak ace Mohammed Ahmed Polo has called on Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold SC to restore Ghana's lost two CAF inter-club slots next season.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) led by Kurt Okraku met on Tuesday to annul the 2019/2020 football season amid the Coronavirus crisis.

Premier League giants Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold have been chosen as the nation's representatives in next season’s CAF’ inter-club competitions after no club was demoted or promoted.

A section of the football fraternity have questioned the decision to select the two aforementioned clubs to represent the country in the CAF inter-club competitions.

Speaking to S.K Ntim of Bryt FM, he said, “Nobody can stop Kotoko and AshantiGold from participating in Africa due to their recent bad performance. To make a meaningful impact in the competition requires consistency so why should we stop them from going," Polo stated on Bryt FM.

“It is true our clubs aren’t performing of late but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t go. We had four slots but due to our low performance we’ve lost two of them so Kotoko and AshantiGold who have been selected to represent us must this time around do well to turn the fortunes.”

Ghana’s slots for the CAF inter-clubs competitions was reduced from four to two in 2015 due to poor performance of representative clubs in the 2014 competition.
