Hearts of Oak have paid tribute to former captain Joseph Kpakpo Oti Ankrah who died in the United States on Wednesday night.

The former centre back was aged 84.

According to report, he contracted the deadly coronavirus and lost the battle after weeks on admission at the Internal Care Unit.

A club statement read: ''@HeartsOfOakGH is saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Jonathan Oti Ankrah (Joe Dakota). He was a pillar in defence at the club during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this grievous moment.''

Ankrah, nicknamed Joe Dakota, captained the Phobians for very long time

He succeeded Charles Addo Odametey in central defence.
