Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has revealed the reason behind his outfit’s failure to tie down Joseph Esso to a new contract. Last week, the Phobians announced the departure of the former Ebusua Dwarfs frontman after failing to reach an agreement over a new deal to keep him for their next season's campaign.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Fox FM, Opare Addo discloses that the striker wanted a one year contract extension but Hearts of Oak would only agree to a two year deal.

“Money was never an issue in our negotiations with Esso,he wanted to sign for just a season whilst we negotiated for a 2-year deal.”

“It wasn’t going to make a business sense for us to have signed him on a year deal. Since we couldn’t reach a compromise we had to let go of him, Opare told Fox FM.

Esso, who played 14 games and netted on three occasions in the Premier League last season, Hearts from Ebusua Dwarfs in 2018.

He was a key member of the Black Stars 'B' squad that won silver medal at the 2019 WAFU Cup held in Senegal.
