Ghana's version of Classico has set a new revenue record for the country after raking in Gh¢ 726,380 following Sunday's match between Hearts and Kotoko.

The amount, which is about $130,000, becomes the highest amount any football match has earned in a match following the Ghana Premier League match in Accra.

"The amount from the gate proceeds in the Hearts of Oak clash with Asante Kotoko was Gh¢ 726,380," National Sports Authority PRO Charles Amoah told Oyerepa FM.

The previous record was held by Kotoko last year when they played Cameroonian side Coton Sport Garoua in the CAF Confederation Cup in Kumasi and earned them Gh¢ 639,000.

Prior to that record, the highest proceeds recorded over the years was in 2014 when Ghana spanked Egypt 6-1 in a World Cup qualifier in Kumasi that recorded a little over Gh¢ 400,000.

So now the new record is held by Hearts versus Kotoko match on Sunday which ended 2-1 in favour of the visiting side.
