Duncan, Addo keen on Black Stars post

Local coaches David Duncan and Herbert Addo say they are keen on replacing Milovan Rajevac as coach of the Black Stars.

Addo insists that his knowledge of the local terrain will help him to excel in the job while no non-sense Duncan counts of his experience both at home and abroad.

The coach of Ghanaian champions Aduana Stars was the second man to express interest in the post after ex-coach Ratomir Dujkovic expressed interest to replace his Serbian compatriot.

Addo, who helped Aduana to annex the title at the first attempt, is one of Ghana’s respected coaches after leading several clubs in the country.

The tactician is also currently in charge of the local Black Stars says a local coach will perform better than a foreign manager because they nurtured the country’s players.

“If you ask me to take the Black Stars now, of course I will take it,” Addo said.

“I am a coach, I know my job, the players know what to do and I think it will be fantastic because I have a wider range of players to choose from.

“We nurtured them [players], we know them, we know the language to speak to them, and we know what we will do to get them to perform.

“The foreign coach can do a good job, but we can do better ... far, far better,” he added.

Duncan, who revived AshGold and is credited for improving sides he has coached, says when given the maximum support accorded foreign coaches he will excel.

He refused to be drawn into the salary he would accept to coach the Black Stars.

Ghana’s four Nations Cup titles, the last of which was in 1982, were achieved under local coaches, three of them under CK Gyamfi.

But the local manager failed to help the country qualify for the World Cup after Ghana reached the global tournament for the first time in 2006 under Ratomir Dujkovic.

Rajevac led a second-string Black Stars team to reach the final of the African Cup of Nations in January before leading the side to the World Cup quarter finals for the first time.
