One of the most popular Spanish clubs in the world was formed in 1899. It all began on November 29, when the Swiss football enthusiast Joan Gamper and a group of his friends on the Rambla street founded Barcelona football club. The first official match of FC Barcelona took place on December 8, 10 days after the club was founded. Then England became their rival :

In 1940, at the direction of Francisco Franco, the name of the club was changed to Club del Futbol Barcelona. The emblem of the club was also changed. Barsa had played with that emblem for 9 years in a row, until the previous name was returned in 1974. In 1951, a footballer joined Barcelona. For him, Ladislao Kubala, the Camp Nou was built. The first match at the Camp Nou on the occasion of its opening took place on 28 September 1957. For the 1982 World Cup, the Camp Nou was expanded to 120,000 seats. In the same year, Barsa made one of the most striking transfers in its history. Diego Armando Maradona relocated from Boca Juniors for £3 million. However, the Argentinian's career was not so spectacular and after three years he moved to Napoli.

Modern history of Barcelona

In 1988, the team was led by the legendary Johan Cruyff. The aforementioned triumph on the international stage took place in the 1991/92 season.  La Liga matches are loved and watched not only in Spain, but all over the world, and La Liga fixtures remain the most viewed on football statistics websites. Pride of Catalonia won their 12th league title and reached the European Cup final. Johan Cruyff has won 11 different trophies in 8 years as coach at Barsa. In 1998 and 1999, Barcelona, ​​under the leadership of Louis van Gaal, won two national championships and the King's Cup. In 2008, the team was led by Pep Guardiola. With him, the team won the national championship, the UEFA cup and the Champions League several times. In a decade spanning 2008-2018, Barsa won the Spanish Championship 7 times and holds the record for Cup victories.
