Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has admitted that Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 'will always hang around our necks.'
For the first time in two decades, the four-time African champions failed to secure a spot at the continental showpiece after finishing at the bottom of Group F with three points.
Ghana recorded three draws and three defeats after six games.
Following the team's failure to secure a place in the tournament that is scheduled to be hosted in Morocco, Asante Twum beleives history will not forgive the current leadership of the Football Association.
"It's not been easy especially when history will not forgive you. In 2004 when we didn't qualify for the AFCON, it's always been the reference point...," Asante Twum told JoySports.
"Twenty years down the line, we fail to qualify, and it is during a time when some of us are at the helm of affairs. History will not forgive us; [Not qualifying for the AFCON] will always hang around our necks which is a difficult thing to take around this time.
"But at the end of the day, we have to move on. We are a powerful football nation, there are difficulties around this time, we have to sieve the seal and pick the positives."
The Black Stars' next assignment is in March 2025 when the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers resume. They will face Chad and Madagascar.
