Hodgson stands firm on Zaha

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has made it clear that Arsenal's offer for Wilfried Zaha was "nowhere near" the Eagles' valuation of the player.

The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international has been linked with a big-money move to the Gunners but Hodgson, who has already sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United this summer, is in no rush to sell Zaha.

Zaha has scored 31 goals in 147 league appearances for Palace since returning to Selhurst Park in 2015 following an ill-fated spell at Manchester United.

Speaking after Palace's pre-season defeat to Barnet on Tuesday, former England and Liverpool boss Hodgson said: "I don't think Arsenal have actually made a bid that has come anywhere near our valuation. I'm sure the player realises that if someone's going to take him, he'll expect clubs to pay the market value.

"Until someone does that, there's not much to discuss."

Zaha still has four years left to run on his current contract while Arsenal have reportedly made an instalment-based £40million bid for the player which was rejected by Palace.

Hodgson's team lost 6-2 to National League side Barnet but there was some good news for the Eagles as Connor Wickham, who has endured two injury-ravaged seasons, scored a goal in the pre-season friendly.

The former Sunderland striker said afterwards: "I feel better than I did last year for sure. I felt good out there but each day I'm working hard. I took a different approach this year and it seems to be working so the main priority is to stay fit and be available for the manager.

"Hopefully this year can be a lot more successful personally than it was last year."

Crystal Palace are 3/1 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table in 2019/20 while they are 17/10 to beat Everton in their first match of the campaign on 10th August.
