Hull City reveal they are the club that produced the positive coronavirus tests in the Championship

Hull City confirmed they were the Championship club to produce the only positive results from coronavirus testing across the second tier.

The EFL's hopes of finishing the Championship season were handed a major boost after just two individuals tested positive from 1,014 tests.

Players and staff at all 24 clubs in England's second tier were tested for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, and Hull announced on Sunday afternoon that they were the unnamed club in question.

'Medical confidentiality means the names will not be disclosed, and the Club asks for this to be respected,' a Hull statement read.

'The duo, who are both asymptomatic and feeling no ill effects, will now self-isolate for seven days – in line with the protocols set out in EFL guidelines – before being tested again at a later date.

'The Club will continue to liaise closely with the affected personnel and will make no further comment.'

In a statement released earlier on Sunday, the EFL revealed that two individuals from the same club were the only people to produce a positive test result.

'The EFL can confirm that 1,014 players and Club staff from all 24 Championship Clubs have been tested for COVID-19 over the course of the last 72 hours, with two individuals testing positive from one Club,' the statement began.

'Those players or Club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.

'The EFL will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency.

'No specific details as to Clubs or individuals will be provided by the League.'

Turning up such a low number of positive tests from more than 1,000 tests is a boost to sides keen on finishing the season to sort promotion and relegation places.

Teams will now hope to resume group training again on Bank Holiday Monday with a restart hopeful for June 20.

A 42-page protocol document had earlier been sent out to all clubs last week, containing strict guidelines on a return to training as well as competing on match days.

The news will come as a boost to the likes of Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion who with nine games to have a healthy gap at the top of the table as they both look to seal automatic promotion to the Premier League.

In addition to the initial round of private testing, every player or member of staff who attends the training ground in the coming weeks will be required to undergo screening protocol.

The club doctor will oversee screening to detect any symptoms for the coronavirus.

In addition, players and staff will also be required to complete a daily medical questionnaire submitted before arrival at the training ground on training days. If this is not submitted before they arrive, they will not be granted access to the training ground.
