Sports and Recreation Minister-designate Kofi Adams has criticized the practice of national team management committees receiving per diem allowances while players, particularly women and junior male teams, are left without theirs.
This issue has been a longstanding concern in Ghana, with women’s teams and male junior teams often reporting delays in allowances, even as management officials receive theirs promptly.
Critics have argued that such inequities undermine the motivation and performance of players who sacrifice to represent the country on the international stage.
“I don’t think the national team management committees should pay themselves per diem when the players have not received theirs,” Adams told Kasapa FM.
He added that it was imperative to “serve the people we are there for before serving ourselves,” describing the current arrangement as unfair and harmful to team morale.
Adams’ comments come amid growing scrutiny of sports administration in Ghana, with many stakeholders calling for reforms to ensure equitable treatment of athletes.
