Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo has revealed that he was determined to score in the Black Stars' World Cup qualifier against Chad.
Semenyo, who has been in impressive form for Bournemouth, broke his goal drought for Ghana, scoring the opening goal in their 5-0 win.
"I told myself I needed to score when coming. I knew my form was good and scoring for the nation is something I had done in a long time. I am happy I got a goal today," Semenyo said in the post-match press conference.
Semenyo's goal set the tone for Ghana's dominant display, and his surging run into the box also earned Jordan Ayew a penalty, which made it 3-0.
The victory marked Ghana's first five-goal haul since 2020 and offered a welcome respite from their recent scoring struggles.
Semenyo acknowledged the team's struggles in front of goal, but was hopeful that their performance against Chad would be a turning point.
"We struggled for goals in the last games, but we got into the right places in today's game, which resulted in what we saw. Hopefully, we can do the same on Monday," Semenyo said.
Ghana currently top Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and will face Madagascar on Monday.
