Ibrahim Tanko reveals challenges of coaching the Black Meteors

Head coach of the U-23 national team, Ibrahim Tanko has disclosed the challenges he faces coach the Black Meteors.

According to the former Ghana striker, leading the Black Meteors is entirely different compared to the other youth teams.

Tanko doubles up as assistant coach of the Black Stars but his goal is to lead the U-23 side to qualify for the AFCON U-23 Nations Cup in Egypt and eventually to Tokyo 2020.

The Black Meteors will host Gabon in the second round of qualifiers on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

"It’s a tough challenge, because the under-23 its not easy to find the age group as compared to the Black Stars, Starlets or even Satellites," he told CAFonline.com.

"With the under-23 side you have to be very careful because even when we started coaching the team and I didn’t know the rules well and I was informed that players born in 1996 cannot play even though he is 23 years, so I had to send some of these players away. So yes, it’s very challenging, but we still have some equally good players in the team that I believe can do the work," he added.

"We are going to focus on them and prepare them well to achieve something for the nation."
