I'd be earning better if I focused on education - Ex-Kotoko defender Atta Kusi

Former Asante Kotoko defender Atta Kusi has expressed deep regret over choosing a career in football, citing the meager earnings in Ghana's domestic league.

The former AshantiGold player opened up about his frustrations in a recent TikTok interview admitting to the struggles faced by local footballers.

He revealed that the inadequate salaries and challenges of sustaining a football career in Ghana have made him question his life choices.

"I honestly regret playing football," Kusi admitted. "It pains me that I didn’t learn a trade or focus on education. If I had, I’d be earning a better salary than what I got from playing football in this country."

The 32-year-old defender confessed that he often relies on friends for financial support, describing the experience as "humiliating."

Kusi's cautionary tale serves as a warning to young players in Ghana. He advises them to explore opportunities abroad, as building a stable career in the local league remains an uphill battle.

Kusi's own career has been marked by struggles, including a brief stint with Heart of Lions, where he made six appearances in the 2023/24 campaign helping them to avoid demotion.
