If I wanted to be with Chelsea I would be - Montreal Impact striker Drogba

Published on: 04 March 2016

Didier Drogba has dismissed the possibility of making yet another returning to Chelsea anytime soon.

Following the sacking of Jose Mourinho as manager of Chelsea back in December, there was intense speculation that club legend Drogba would be returning to Stamford Bridge as assistant to Guus Hiddink.

The move evidently did not come into fruition and Drogba has now gone on to reveal that he did not rejoin Chelsea as he remains committed to continuing his playing career with MLS franchise Montreal Impact.

The Ivorian great said: "Believe me, if I wanted to be with Chelsea, I would be with Chelsea."

Drogba went on to add that he is fully focused on getting himself to full fitness for the Impact as they embark on the 2016 MLS season which kicks off this weekend.

"The season is long and it's not worth the risk of playing these (early) games. It's not that I don't want to play, but it's because I can't play, because of my knee," he added.

"Ever since I got here my focus has been on the team. I'm here to play and to win.

"I'm doing everything I can, along with the team, to make sure we do better than last year. It's as simple as that."

The Impact open the new season with a trip to Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday.
