Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction #1 – Handicap (-4.5) for Alexandrova – 1.70.
Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction #2 – Total Games Under 21 – 1.63.
Ekaterina has a class advantage over Asia. Alexandrova has a stronger technical arsenal, she can work more consistently on the backhand and on reception. We don’t think Ekaterina will have any problems today.
Muhammad has not achieved anything at the WTA level. She clearly lacks speed, and stability. We don’t expect her to be able to give decent resistance to Ekaterina today.
Muhammad won three ITF tournaments in the first half of the season before deciding to play at the WTA level.
In May, the American tried unsuccessfully to qualify for the main draw at Roland Garros. After that, she failed to qualify for four more tournaments, including Wimbledon.
However, in mid-July, she finally made it, qualifying for Palermo. Asia lost her first match against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz (6-4, 5-7, 5-7).
In early August, Muhammad qualified for a major tournament in Toronto. In the decisive round of qualifying, she defeated Donna Vekic (7-5, 6-7, 6-1).
Right after that Muhammad had another sensation, beating Madison Keys (7-6, 6-4) in the first round. In the match against Jessica Pegula, she also managed to show good tennis, but this time the result was not encouraging (2-6, 5-7).
Muhammad has won in the first round in five of her last six tournaments.
Alexandrova reached the second round in Portorož last week. After defeating Marta Kostyuk (7-6, 5-7, 7-5), the Russian lost to Lesya Tsurenko (5-7, 6-7).
At the US Open, Ekaterina barely got past the first round before unexpectedly losing to Lauren Davis (6-0, 4-6, 6-7).
At two other tournaments before the US Open – in Cincinnati and Cleveland – Alexandrova also won one match each.
This year, Alexandrova failed to make it past the first round in only two tournaments.
Alexandrova has won six of her last seven matches in Asia.
