2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 16 Match Preview - Elmina Sharks vs. Asante Kotoko

Published on: 06 February 2022

Elmina Sharks FC are languishing bottom of the league standings and are almost on their way out of the Ghanaian top-flight.

The Botwekumba will try another chance on Monday to get their hopes of surviving when they take on leaders Asante Kotoko SC.

The matchday 16 fixture at the Nduom Sports Complex in Elmina could actually push Sharks to the relegation pit.

Sharks go into Monday's match knowing that they achieved double against the Porcupine Warriors last season which gives them a bit of morale.

Sharks have not won any of their last ten matches in the Ghana Premier League having lost nine and managed to pick just a point.

Since the 2-1 win over Karela United FC on 21 November 2021 in Elmina, the Botwekumba are yet to record a win in 2022 and will want it against the Porcupines.

Sharks have their problems compounded as they have key duo Kingsley Adjei and Justice Ato Mensah departed the club for Medeama SC.

Kotoko are travelling from Kumasi to Elmina with the intentions of consolidating their lead on the league standings as they aim to end the first round as toppers.

The gap has been trimmed to just four points following Bechem United's 2-0 win over AshantiGold SC on Friday.

Kotoko would want to open up the lead to seven points again by beating Sharks on Monday and to also extend their unbeaten streak.

The Porcupine Warriors have not a lost in any of their last eight league matches having recorded six victories and drawn the other two.

The Red fraternity remain undefeated at away in the premiership this campaign and that won't be compromised on Monday against the Botwekumba.

Kotoko have four wins and two draws from their six outings in the Ghana Premier League this season including victories in Dormaa Ahenkro and Bibiani.

Brazilian playmaker Fabio Gama dos Santos and youngster Isaac Oppong are all back to full scale training after recovering from their respective injuries. They are available for selection.

Justice Blay who has rejoined the club has been training and could play a role against Sharks if selected by head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.
