2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 24 Match Preview - AshantiGold SC vs. WAFA SC

Published on: 08 April 2022

AshantiGold SC will be hoping to rebound from their defeat to Legon Cities FC when they play as hosts to WAFA SC this weekend at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

The Miners have not gone three straight home matches without a point in the premiership this campaign, they aim to record a 3rd consecutive home win on Saturday.

AshantiGold are on back-to-back home wins against King Faisal Babes and Real Tamale United red and WAFA seem to be the next victim.

The Gold and Black lads are just four points away from the drop zone as they lie at the 13th position on the league standings with 28 points after 23 rounds.

Thomas Duah and his men claiming a victory over the Academy boys will be crucial for them having in mind a possible relegation dogfight.

Winger Yaw Annor who is the club's top scorer this season will be expecting to score again to help the Miners get all maximum points.

Annor has five goals in the last five home matches in the league for AshantiGold.

WAFA are travelling from Sogakope to Obuasi for this encounter knowing that anything short of win will dent their survival bid.

The Academy lads are in their worst moments ever since they returned to the Ghanaian top-flight having managed only two wins in the last 12 matches.

WAFA have recorded 4 losses and drawn the other 6 matches across the period with their last win coming against Real Tamale United last month.

They are yet to register a win at away in the Ghana league this campaign as they have been winless in all of their 11 games on the road.

WAFA have lost seven and drawn out of their 11 away matches with the last victory dating back in July 2021 - a 2-0 win against Karela United in Nzema-Aiyinase.

The Academy boys will have a bad record in Obuasi since they have never beaten the Miners there at the Len Clay Stadium.

Spanish trainer Guillermo Hamdan Zaragoza will be having a fully fit squad available to him to face AshantiGold on Saturday.
