Asante Kotoko have suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season, falling 3-1 to Legon Cities.
The Porcupine Warriors came into the game after a 2-1 loss to Real Tamale United the previous weekend.
They were expected to win, but Legon Cities had different plans. The Accra-based club delivered by far their best performance of the season to claim the illustrious victory.
The victory is the club's first over Kotoko since 2017. They were known as Wa All Stars at the time.
Cities started well, but it took a controversial penalty decision for them to take the lead in the 17th minute.
Christopher Nettey was adjudged to have brought down Jonah Attuquaye. Michae Otuol's strike from 12 yards was perfect.
Hans Kwofie doubled Cities' lead barely 10 minutes later, shocking Kotoko fans.
Mudasiru Salifu cut the deficit to a few minutes before halftime.
It was expected that Kotoko would return from the break stronger and produce a comeback.
But Kwofie was in the right place to head the third for Cities, who celebrated a famous victory in Kumasi.
Kotoko maintain an eight-point lead at the top, but their advantage will be cut to five if Bechem United beat Karela United on Monday.
Maxwell Konadu's side have climbed up to 8th and are more confident of a strong finish to the season.
