2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 9 Match Preview - Real Tamale United vs. Elmina Sharks

Published on: 18 December 2021

Real Tamale United after that spirited performance against Asante Kotoko SC last Wednesday will be at home this weekend to entertainment Elmina Sharks FC.

The Northern Pride came from behind to draw 1-1 with the Porcupine Warriors in Kumasi in the midweek.

The draw against the Ghanaian giants will surely spur the Tamale lads on for this Sunday's match.

RTU's last game at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale saw them suffer a 1-0 defeat to Medeama SC which makes them aim at making amends against Sharks.

The club captain David Abagna Sandan has been lethal in the premiership having netted 7 goals in 8 games for RTU this term.

Abagna is expected to lead his side once again on the weekend since three of his goals have come at the Aliu Mahama stadium.

Coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko will have a full strength squad available for selection to face Sharks.

Sharks are trekking almost 600 kilometres to the North with back-to-back losses with the hope of picking at least a point following their back-to-back defeats in the league.

But the away record of the "Botwekumba" is not encouraging enough to give them the hope to get something from Tamale.

Sharks after drawing 1-1 with newly-promoted side Accra Lions FC in Accra in the opening day, they have lost all of the last three away matches.

They have been beaten on the road by Bechem United 2-0, Eleven Wonders FC 3-1 and King Faisal Babes 1-0.

Mallam Yahaya who took over the head coach role recently is yet to record a win in premiership.

Yahaya lost his first game in charge against Faisal and lost the second to Hearts of Oak in Elmina last Wednesday.

Sharks will be welcoming back captain Ishmael Hammond in defence after missing out last time against Hearts while Ibrahim Suraj misses Sunday's game through suspension.
