Fredrick Asante's header in the second half ensured ten man Accra Lions defeated Karela United at the Accra Sports stadium on matchday 24 of the Ghana Premier League.
Accra Lions winger Daniel Awuni was sent off in the 42nd minute after receiving two yellow cards in the space of four first half minutes.
The host got off to a good start after dominating the early exchanges but it was Karela who will come close through a corner kick, which was cleared out by the defence of Accra Lions.
Kelvin Kyei should have opened the scoring for the host but his effort was too weak to trouble the Karela defence and on other side Emmanuel Dagadu tried an audacious effort from the center line but goalkeeper Fredrick Asare of Accra Lions dealt with it easily.
Accra Lions left-back Fatawu Hamidu and winger Daniel Awuni combined on the left flank but the latter's effort was blocked by a Karela United defender.
Eight minutes after the half hour mark, Awuni was booked for a foul on Karela's Kelvin Andoh before he was sent off four minutes later for simulation after he was brought down in the box.
Accra Lions went into the break with a man down with the scores goalless.
For a brief moment after recess, Karela United seemed to be enjoying the numerical advantage before Accra Lions coach James Francis introduced Fredrick Asante for Seidu Basit.
Accra Lions found their rhythm and enjoyed possession while creating chances on the right. Hagan Frimpong and Kelvin Kyei had the best opportunities to break the deadlock.
However, with 20 minutes left, Kyei won a freekick for Accra Lions on the right. Abass Samari sent in a curler which was nodded home for the winner by Fredrick Asante.
Karela United coach Bismarck Mensah made a series of substitution but the home side defended resolutely to ensure they won all three points at home.
