Ajax star Mohammed Kudus is set to miss the remainder of the fixtures for the year due to the injury he sustained last week on international duty in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Head coach Erik ten Hag revealed this after Sunday's 5-0 win at RKC Waalwijk.

The midfielder limped off the pitch on 12 minutes against South Africa at the Cape Coast Stadium in an off-the-ball incident after signaling to the bench to be substituted.

After undergoing tests, it appears the injury is worse than initially feared and will need more time to recover.

This means the former Right to Dream Academy and Nordsjaelland mercurial talent will miss January's Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Kudus has been battling injuries since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2020.

The 21-year-old has managed five appearances and scored one goal in the Dutch Eredivisie this term.
