Asante Kotoko SC has notified the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to postpone all league matches until its outstanding game against Ashantigold SC is played.

The league leaders are unhappy about the decision from the GFA to postpone their game at the eleventh hour following reports of security threats in Obuasi.

According to reports, supporters of the Ashantigold SC are planning to stage a demonstration against club officials after the club’s demotion to Division Two by the GFA Disciplinary Committee on the match-fixing scandal.

The GFA per information gathered from the Ghana Police Service has postponed the game indefinitely until further notice.

Asante Kotoko are unhappy about the decision to postpone the game and have urged the Ghana FA to postpone all games to ensure sporting integrity as well as pay all costs incurred by the team since arriving in Obuasi for the game.

“This morning, we have officially written to the Ghana Football Association to register our displeasure in the way and manner the match between AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko was postponed.  As a club, we take a serious exception to the postponement of matches at this crucial stage of our league since issues of sporting integrity may be compromised.

“We have consequently, requested the Ghana Football Association to as a matter of fact postpone all league matches until the outstanding match between AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko is honoured

The club has also demanded the Ghana Football Association to reimburse it for the cost incurred as the team travelled and spent a night in Obuasi on Wednesday in preparation for the match on Thursday”, a statement from the club indicated.

Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer, Nana Yaw Amponsah also reacted to the timing of the GFA to release the verdict of Ashantigold’s ban.

“The timing of the verdict of Ashantigold’s ban is irrelevant and the Ghana FA should have done further consultations before releasing the ban.

“We were only informed on Wednesday evening about the postponement of the match against Ashantigold on Wednesday evening and that has destructed the team because we prepared adequately for the match and now the FA has spoiled everything and our plans. They should have waited for the season to end because we’re left with six matches to the end of the season.”,

Asante Kotoko leads the Premier League table with 56 points having played 28 matches.
