AshantiGold coach Ernest Thompson said they were unable to beat Karela United in the Ghana Premier League because of Covid-19 vaccine.

According to Thompson, his players were affected by Covid-19 jabs in the match which ended 1-1 at the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday.

“We were determined to grab our first home win this season, unfortunately for us, we got a point from the game due to some reasons. We are not taking anything away from Karela, but the period at which we took the Covid jab put us at a disadvantage”, he said.

Coach Thompson added, “We struggled to keep up to the tempo of the game because we didn’t get enough rest to recover after the vaccination.”

Ashgold had to fight back to snatch a point and remain unbeaten after two games in the league.

Karela took the lead in the 35th minute after Mohammed Humin Dafie's long drive shot beat goalkeeper Kofi Mensah.

But the Miners with a quick response five minutes as they drew level through Opoku Agyemang who scored from the spot.
