Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku apologises to Ghanaians after Afcon disaster

Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians after the team failed woefully in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana's campaign shockingly ended on Tuesday evening after failing to win the must-win game against Comoros. The Black Stars were beaten 3-2 by the debutants – a result which saw them finish bottom of Group C with one point.

“Words will certainly not be enough to erase the frustration”, Djiku, who scored Black Stars’ second goal against Comoros, wrote on his Twitter account.

“We are disappointed and also sorry for our Ghanaian people to have failed at this stage of the competition.

“We must stay focused because qualifying for the World Cup must motivate us more than anything.”

Djiku featured in all three games and has been praised for being one of the few players who put up a brave display in Cameroon.
