Amaju Pinnick won't seek a third term bid

CAF president Patrice Motsepe says Amaju Pinnick will play an important role in his administration despite his decision not to seek a third term bid as Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) boss.

Pinnick announced back in April that he would not run for a third term although he is eligible to do so.

The decision, watchers say stems out of the country's failure to qualify to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

But CAF boss Patrice Motsepe had paid glowing tribute to the iconic Nigerian administrator and says he will continue to play a key role in his administration.

“I respect whatever decision he takes, I am going to continue using him for African football, for Nigerian football,” Mr Motsepe said.

When asked if had made any attempt to prevail on Mr Pinnick to rescind his decision, Mr Motsepe responded: “Well, it’s still too early now. I have got to allow discussions to take place. I think we’ll see how things go within the next few weeks.”

Pinnick's tenure ends in September 2022.
