Black Stars coach, Milovan Rajevac has defended his decision of playing captain Andre Ayew in central midfield in the game against Zimbabwe in Cape Coast.

The Al Sadd forward is known for his role as a right winger or a central forward, but Rajevac started him in the middle before pushing him forward later in the game.

The decision nearly cost the Black Stars as Zimbabwe held Ghana for almost an hour.

“Andre was used as a holding midfielder because I know him very well and I know his abilities, experience, and knowledge. He is very intelligent player and a great leader so, in that match, we wanted to play offensively and I needed him because of his passing and decision and because we didn’t have Wakaso, I had faith in him that he can deliver which he proved he can,” Coach Rajevac told the Ghana FA media team in an interview.

“His fighting and determination is great so I took the decision and I am quite satisfied with his performance," he added.

The 31-year-old netted Ghana's third in the 3-1 win after Milovan Rajevac decided to bring on a central defender, Baba Iddrissu, and allow the captain move forward.
