Ghana youth defender Nathaniel Adjei excelled on his debut for Swedish club Hammarby IF in a friendly game against IK Sirius on Saturday.

Adjei joined the Green and White lads on a one-year loan deal from Ghanaian second-tier outfit Danbort FC at the tail end of last term.

The budding guardsman was swiftly sent to the side’s second team as the Allsvenskan season was in the twilight.

The 19-year-old exhibited superlative performances which prompted coach Martí Cifuentes to promote him to the senior team.

Adjei was named in the team to face IK Sirius in their maiden pre-season game on Saturday.

The Ghanaian defender climbed off the bench with the score line locked at 1-0 for his side.

In the 54th minute, Adjei made a significant move in the game by laying on a sweet pass to Filston Mawana but the youngster was clattered by the Sirius goalkeeper which resulted in a spot-kick.

Mawana stepped up and bury the ball to give Hammarby a 2-0 advantage — adding to Gustav Ludwigson’s 40th minute strike.

Aziz Harabi sealed off the victory with a fantastic goal in the 68th minute.

Christian Kouakou grabbed a consolation for Sirius IF as the game ended 3-1 for Hammarby.

Adjei is expected to remain with the first team in the forthcoming campaign.

The Black Satellites centre-back could keep his place in the team when Hammarby host Falkenbergs in the Swedish Cup on February 20, 2022.

The 2022 Allsvenskan season will begin on 9 April and end in November 2022.
