Ghana’s opponents Nigeria ready for WAFU B U20 Championship

Ghana’s opponents Nigeria have arrived in Niamey the capital of the Niger Republic for this year’s WAFU B U20 Championship. 

The team flew into Niamey on Thursday for the Championship which is being held from the 7th-21st of May.

30 players, six backroom staff and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation landed in Niger for the tournament.

In Group B, the Flying Eagles will compete against Ghana's Black Satellites and Burkina Faso's Young Etalons, while Group A will feature hosts Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Togo, and Ivory Coast.

The Flying Eagles will begin their campaign against Ghana on Sunday, May 8th, followed by a three-day match against Burkina Faso. Both games will be held at Niamey's General Seyni Kountche Stadium.

Each group will send two teams to the semi-finals, with the two winners qualifying to represent the WAFU B zone at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations (Afcon) in 2023.

The Afcon will be held in Egypt in 2023, while the FIFA U20 World Cup finals will be held in Indonesia.

The tournament's four semifinalists will all qualify to represent Africa in Indonesia.
