Former Ghana international Christian Gyan will be remembered by Feyenoord fans for his dedication to the club even after retiring from football.

Gyan who died at the age of 43 on Wednesday joined Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1996.

He was first sent on loan to Excelsior but was later recalled to join the team and made his debut for the Eredivisie giants in that same season.

The Ghana U-17 World Cup winner remained with Feyenoord for the eight seasons where he became a "Cult Hero" after emerging to be fans' favorite.

According to Van Egmond, a Dutch journalist,  the former Ghana international became a cult hero at the club as his love for Feyenoord was unreal.

"The Feyenoord audience has sensed that Gyan's love for Feyenoord is real," Van Egmond said in an interview about the Christian Gyan.

"The Ghanaian loves the Rotterdam club a lot. For example, a few days before the championship of 2017, Gyan went to the Stadionplein to pray for a good end to the title fight, after he had a difficult conversation in the hospital earlier that day. He had to undergo surgery on his skull. So when he got into trouble himself, Feyenoord fans started a relief campaign for him themselves.

“He has always been different in everything, I found that something fascinating,” Egmond was full of praise for the Ghanaian star.

Christian Gyan was diagnosed with cancer four years ago and had been battling with the disease for some time now until he gave up the ghost on Wednesday, December 29.

Gyan made 23 appearances for the Black Stars.
