Kieran Trippier ready to hold out for move to Manchester United

Published on: 29 July 2021

Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier believes his dream of a move to Manchester United may have to wait until the final days of the transfer window.

The Red Devils have been in talks with Atleti over a move for the England international for a number of weeks now, though the two sides have so far been unable to reach an agreement over a fee.

Kieran Trippier was one of England's heroes this summer

Diego Simeone has insisted he sees Trippier as a key member of his side as Atleti look to defend their La Liga crown next season, but the former Tottenham man is said to be desperate to push for a move back to the Premier League.

Trippier currently only has one year remaining on his deal in the Spanish capital - a scenario which would usually see the club desperately looking to offload their man - but Los Rojiblancos have the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months, meaning they're under no pressure to cut ties.

As such the Spanish champions are unwilling to sell their first choice right-back for anything less than £30m - a valuation United are refusing to meet.

With talks seemingly reaching an impasse, The Telegraph report that Trippier has already accepted he won't be moving to Old Trafford any time soon as United will need to generate funds before they can sanction more new signings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already secured two marquee arrivals this summer, splashing roughly £120m on Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Solskjaer may have to wait to get his man

Given their enormous outlay already this transfer window, the chances of United bowing to Atleti's demands seem increasingly unlikely unless they can make money from sales.

One man whose departure would definitely free up some cash would be Paul Pogba. The Frenchman is said to be available for as little as £50m after he rebuffed United's latest contract offer, and with Paris Saint-Germain waiting in the wings it may be that Pogba's exit paves the way for Trippier's move to Old Trafford.
