Klopp: Liverpool fans would not boot without a reason

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Monday that the club's fans would not boo the English national anthem "without a reason" after derogatory sounds were heard from the club's supporters before Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea.

It has been reported that the origins of the boos can be traced back to the 1980's, when severe opposition to the Conservative government at the time, as well as the fallout following the Hillsborough tragedy, drove a wedge between the city and the rest of the country.

Klopp also revealed that the English Football Association should hand out more winners' medals to cover the ever-expanding squads of players and backroom staff at elite football clubs - currently 40 medals are made available to winning teams.
