Liberty Professionals relegated from Ghana Premier League after 22 years

Liberty Professionals' 22-year stay in the Ghana Premier League came to an end on Sunday, 18 July 2021, after playing out a 0-0 with King Faisal on the final day of competition.

With the one point, the Scientific Soccer Lads amassed 40 points but that could not guarantee them safety.

In the early minutes, Maxwell Ansah produced a spectacular volley from the edge of the box but his attempt wide.

Two minutes later, the visitors came close to scoring but lead striker Kwame Peprah missed  target by a whisker with a header.

King Faisal could have found the back of the net but Peprah fluffed his lines and could not finish off the pass from Zubairu Ibrahim.

After the half hour mark, Liberty popped up seeking to open the scoring.

Abraham Wayo was fouled by Samuel Kusi on the right side and the free kick quickly taken but Pius Baffour Awuah was around to clear the danger.

Faisal goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim gifted Liberty a fine opportunity but Karikari's feeble shot was saved by the latter.

Liberty Professionals joined Ebusua Dwarfs and Inter Allies are the demoted clubs for the 2020/21 season.

The club was formed in 1996 and managed to gain promotion in the 2008 season.

Based in Dansoman, they made their top-flight debut in 1999 which some exciting youngsters in their fold.

Liberty Professionals contribution to Ghana football has been enormous having produced some of the best players in the world including  Asamoah Gyan, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Kwadwo Asamoah.
