Man City predicted lineup vs RB Leipzig - Premier League

Published on: 06 December 2021

Manchester City will look to keep the good times rolling when they travel to RB Leipzig in their final Champions League group game of the season on Tuesday evening.

With progression to the last-16 and top spot already assured, Pep Guardiola will be able to shuffle his pack in east Germany.

Here is what that rotated lineup should look like...

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Zack Steffen

Zack Steffen (GK) - With City already out of the Carabao Cup, Steffen's chances for game time have already decreased. As a result, he should get the nod in this dead rubber.

Kyle Waker (RB) - City are short of right-backs so although Walker played 90 minutes against Watford on Saturday, he should expect to feature again.

John Stones (CB) - Slightly behind Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order this season, Stones will be hoping to use this game as a platform to return to the manager's good books.

Nathan Ake (CB) - There remain question marks over Ake's suitability for a squad of this quality and RB Leipzig represents another tough test.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) - Joao Cancelo has been impossible to dislodge from left-back this season, unfortunately for Zinchenko.

2. Midfielders

Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne (CM) - Back from injury and introduced from the bench against Watford, De Bruyne will be back in the City midfield from the start in midweek.

Fernandinho (CM) - Rarely used these days, expect Fernandinho to roll back the years at the base of City's midfield three.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - Not quite as sensational as he was last season so far, Gundogan has still managed an impressive three goals already this campaign.

3. Forwards

Phil Foden

Gabriel Jesus (RW) - Continuing to impress in a wide forward role this season, Jesus will be eager to add to his seasonal goal tally on Tuesday.

Phil Foden (ST) - Competition for places is ridiculous in the City frontline. Any one of Foden, Riyad Mahrez or Raheem Sterling could get get the nod here.

Jack Grealish
(LW) - Again, Guardiola's decision for the left-wing berth is hard to predict but after the City boss challenged Grealish to get better last week, he should get another chance to justify his British-record price tag.
