Minnesota United complete sale of Adrien Hunou to Ligue 1 side Angers

Minnesota United have completed the sale of French forward Adrien Hunou to Ligue 1 side Angers SCO, the club announced Wednesday.

Hunou - a former France U-20 international - departs after falling out of favor at Allianz Field this season, starting just one MLS match in 2022 alongside eight substitute appearances, failing to find the net.

The 28-year-old's sale opens up valuable Designated Player (DP) and international roster spots for Minnesota United, whose remaining DPs are Argentine playmaker Emanuel Reynoso and Paraguayan forward Luis Amarilla.

Hunou joined Minnesota from Rennes in April 2021 and went on to score nine goals in 39 appearances for the Loons across all competitions, adding a further assist.

"I can't wait to come back to France and Ligue 1," Hunou said upon signing for Angers, adding: "I will try to bring all my experience to the team in order to meet our objectives."

Angers enjoyed a solid 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign, finishing 14th in the table with 41 points from 38 games, leaving them comfortably clear of the relegation zone.

Minnesota United, meanwhile, are 12th in the Western Conference with just 18 points from 16 games so far this season. The Loons are currently enduring a four-match losing streak across all competitions that has also seen them exit the US Open Cup to USL side Union Omaha.
