Monaco attacker Myron Boadu relieved after long-awaited Ligue 1 goal

Monaco striker Myron Boadu admitted to feeling relieved after scoring his first league goal on Wednesday in the victory against Angers.

Since joining Monaco from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, Boadu had netted only once for his new club and that was in the Europa League.

Boadu started AS Monaco’s clash with Angers and in his 15th Ligue 1 appearance, the striker finally got on the scoresheet. After 25 minutes, Boadu netted from close range to end his drought.

The game would end 3-1 to Monaco with Boadu going off in the 79th minute. The young forward will be hoping his difficult period is now over and the goals will come now more regularly.

"Of course, I feel relief. It is always a beautiful and important moment to score your first goal in the competition. So I'm very happy," Boadu said on the club's website. 'I was often close to it, but now the moment was there. I hope this is the beginning.'

The striker, who was recently passed by the Jong Oranje because of his attitude, realizes that there is still plenty of work to be done. But he got that first goal in Ligue 1. 'Personally I wanted to show the best of myself. I was happy that the trainer called on me. I wanted to repay the trust. I was eager to score and I did.'

Despite his difficult first months at Monaco, he felt the confidence of trainer Niko Kovac. "

When I'm on the field, I play for him," said the striker, who feels more support at Monaco.

"When we won against PSV, Aurélien Tchouameni came up to me and said: "Everyone in the dressing room sees your qualities. So show everyone on the field."

"That message touched me because it came from a key person in the group for whom I have a lot of respect. I get on well with everyone and their support is very important to me. We showed against Angers that we are a team."
