SERIE A - Leonardo Bonucci: “Conte told me to look for another team.”

Published on: 20 October 2021

Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci has revealed that former manager Antonio Conte had told him to leave the club about ten years ago.

Juve take on Zenit in the third game of the Champions League on Wednesday and Bonucci spoke to Amazon Prime about the time when he could’ve joined the Russian club when Conte was managing the Bianconeri.

The Euro 2020 winner told: “Conte told me that I was the last in the hierarchy of defenders and that I could find another club. We entered into negotiations with Zenit, but I listened to my pride and chose to stay at Juventus.”

Bonucci also spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit and move to Manchester United: “Ronaldo made a choice that we respected. Last year the team played for him, now the group must rediscover that Juve spirit that was there before his arrival.”
